What is TBT-S

Temperament-Based Treatment with Supports (TBT-S) is a new treatment approach focused on integrating cutting edge information about the brain-basis of eating disorders into treatment. TBT-S focuses on arming clinicians with experiential activities and highly-focused skills to teach clients and carers/supports reasons that eating disorders occur, and concrete and applicable skills that can be used to combat disordered eating behaviour. Clinicians and carers learn how to address eating behaviour in EDs from a brain basis based on the latest information from a neuroscientific perspective.

TBT-S actively includes families, friends, colleagues, spouses (Supports). It has been developed to interactively help clients and Supports better understand the root causes of the illness, the underlying genetic, neurobiological and trait foundation and provide tools to better manage AN, for both clients and Supports, to increase health.  It is being researched on both adolescents and adults with AN and their Supports, with findings showing high acceptability and feasibility in multiple site open trials in the USA.
